Hey there!  I’m Lynn, and I’m stopping by from Riggstown Road today to share a sweet little project with you – just in time for the Fourth.  This No-Sew Patriotic Pillow is something you can whip up in a jiffy.  And not only is it no-sew, it’s also basically no-cost.  I love to upcycle!

I made a pillow on a sewing machine in 7th grade.  It was a cute little red calico pillow, just the right size for a doll bed.  It turned out pretty much perfect.  And I’ve made nary a one since.  Nor anything else on a sewing machine.  I do own a machine, though.  This is because I have good intentions.  I am going to use it.

But not today!  Today, I’m making a pillow with just scissors, old clothes, and my trusty glue gun.  Here’s how:

Supplies

  • old pair of straight-leg blue jeans (bigger is better)
  • red and white cloth (from old t-shirts, etc.)
  • pillow stuffing
  • hot glue gun

Instructions

Cut a leg off the pair of jeans.  Make it a little longer than you want your pillow to be.

Cut the hemmed end off, so both ends will be the same.

Then, cut strips in each end of the denim.  Make sure to cut so that there is an equal number of strips on top and bottom, so each strip will match up to another one.

Stuff your pillow, shaping as you go.  Don’t worry too much; you can add or remove some later if you’re not happy with the shape or thickness.

Once your pillow is stuffed, tie the denim strips together at each end to close up the pillow.

Embellishment

To make this cute little flag,  cut out a red rectangle for the base, a small blue denim square for the star field, and some white stripes.  Place it first, and when you are happy with how it looks, go back and add hot glue under each part.  (Just use thin lines of glue to maintain a flat effect.  Oh, and don’t burn yourself. like. I. always. do.)

And there you go!  Right now, this is my Fourth of July décor, but later it will be perfect on my son’s bed, don’t you think?
